Is it easy to hack email accounts technically?

Answer is No.
It is difficult to hack email accounts but the hackers makes trap in which user fall and lend up losing their email accounts.

They make trap such that we lend up giving our own passwords.

Below are methods how hackers set trap and solutions to it.

Website Phishing (Spoofing):

In case of Website Spoofing or Phishing the attacker creates Website with same GUI look and feel as original website but the URL of Website is different.This website is created for cheating purpose.

Eg:An attacker creates a spoofed web page of let say hotmail.com which would be exactly same as hotmail ,so people believe it as original website.Their main intention is to get password,if user enters his username and password unknowingly on login page he gives away his id and password to attacker.

Solution:

Never access email or secured site(where login required) other than original site
Type URL in address bar never visit form any hyperlink.
Check address bar whether the address of website is proper eg:For instance spoof page would be yahooo.com in case of yahoo.com

This applies to all site where secure login required.

Key Loggers:

Key Logger is a tool, kind of a spyware which records the key activities of keyboard on your machine.Attackers installs keylogger on your machine back-door without your knowledge ,when you are installing some program if keylogger is patched with it then logger also gets installed or click on illegitimate link like tempting screen saver,spams,ads,images etc.

The logger records all activites and sends log file periodically to attacker without your knowldge.From these log files attacker extract your password and uses it.

Solution:

Key your PC update with antivirus and antispyware.
Don't click on unknown links spam links however tempting may be.
Scan installable file before running it.

Improper Password:

According survey conducted people use their close relative name,date of births,mobile numbers,religious significance name and digit like 1234 as password.Whenever attacker targets a specific user he understands person properly by seeing traffic activities and personal info of users studies his target properly and uses guess work to crack password or else can crack using brute forcing it.

Solution:

While keeping password, use random words.
Password must be mix of block, small alpahabets ,numerics,and special charcters in order to make it strong.
Whenever making any email or social networking account remember to keep your secondary email.If you haven't you could edit it whenever required.If at all you forget your password or hacked your password reset request will be send to you on secondary account.
Never use same passwords for all accounts.

Registration forms & Spam mails:

Most of free forums downloading sites have compulsion registration there are many fake and spams among those too which infringe with your personal details.People generally have habit of keeping same password as that of their email accounts,thus land up giving password.

Spam mails: There are instance where there are forge spam mail which call themselves from bank or support team of hotmail , gmail and ask to mail username password in order to avoid from closing accounts.No provider sends this mail they all are fake spams.

Solution:

Never use same passwords on registration pages as your email account,use different passwords.
Use some temporary email accounts not personal email accounts while registering yourself in forums etc.

All modern Computer Systems manufactured in the last years, support boot from cd feature, but it may be required to configure this feature in bios or previous owner of your computer system may have disabled this feature or may have changed the boot priority sequence )

When you start your computer, check the boot-screen for setup key, In most newer pc it will be DELETE key.

Press DEL key or ESC five times when computer starts to enter BIOS setup

AMBIOS user

now you will see some similar screen and choose the BOOT option and choose Boot Device Priority and choose first boot device to CDROM and second boot device to HARD DRIVE You can press F10 to save settings.

Award Bios you will see some similar screen a nd choose the right key to Enter setup

Now choose Advanced Bios Features

and set First Boot Device to CDROM and Second or third to HDD-0 and Press F10 to save it.

Pebuilder Window Xp boot disk is a recovery XP boot disk which is made using PEbuilder software it can be used for recovery specially while to removing viruse,take backup when your OS doesnt load even in safe mode.

Below is the .iso file of Pebuilder Window Xp boot disk download it and write the image file into a CD

To write into CD you can use free burning software InfraRecorder from link below

Step to write ISO file of Boot disk:
After downloading the iso file

Download and install InfraRecorder, a free and open source image burning program.
Insert a blank CD in the drive and select Do nothing or Cancel if an autorun dialog pops up.
Open Infra Recorder and click the 'Write Image' button in the main screen.
- Alternatively you can select the 'Actions' menu, then 'Burn image'.
Select the Ubuntu CD image file you want to use, then click 'Open'.
In the dialog, click 'OK'.

Before using the CD check the BIOS setup Disk Priority and make CD as first disk priority.

Sometimes when system files are infected by viruses then you can' t remove it using normal procedure because when OS is ON the processes are still running hence you can't manipulate it.

Step to remove viruses

In order to remove virus in such case,you need to know the virus location.

Using this disk you can remove virus,Before the OS load while starting computer insert the PE builder boot disk in CD-Rom and make your machince run from CD rather than HDD it will prompt you during boot if your first booting device is CD Press any key to boot from disk or else cursor may blink then press any key and it will load from CD it would take 2 mins to load do not interrupt between and finally the screen below appears

Now your machine is running from Disk

Click on go then program and then select A43 File management utility as shown below

Explorer opens as shown below, now you can go to any location on hard disk and manipulate things ,go to known virus location and remove it .

Steps When your computer crashes and cant open in safemode or need to take back up of important data on USB drive

Before starting your computer connect the USB drive to your machine or else Bart PE wont detect the USB drive
Now follow above procedure show for virus removal then after opening the explorer backup your data on USB drive.

Every time you open your task manager you will probably see ctfmon.exe running.Even if you try to disable using msconfig by disabling at autostart it wont.

What is ctfmon.exe?
CTFMON.EXE is a file that is installed with Office XP application. It activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor and the Language Bar. The program monitors the active windows and provides text input service support for speech recognition, handwriting recognition, keyboard, translation, and other alternative user input technologies

If you are not using these processes so you can disable ctfmon by following steps:

1. Open Control Panel

2. Double Click on Regional and Language Setting (classic View) or Double click on regional,date,time and language setting.

3.Click on Language Tab, then click on Details

4.Click on Advanced tab

5.Place a tick on checkmark box "Turn off advanced text services"

6.Click on Apply and Ok

After Disable ctfmon from autostart list

7. Click on Run and type msconfig
8.Click on "Startup" tab
9. the check mark box "Ctfmon"
10.Do Apply and OK

Now Ctfmon is disable ,if you want to enable it then uncheck the checkmark box "Turn off advanced text services"

Increase net speed by just clicking on this three registry files,it will configure your registry so that window will use efficeint use of your Bandwidth.Window has blocked some of your bandwith which can now be utilize. And even Window has allocated 20% of your bandwidth for application purpose which you can make it 0% and enjoy your entire bandwidth

How to retrive 20% of bandwidth:

1. Click Start then Run and type "gpedit.msc" without quotes.This opens the group policy editor.

2. Local Computer Policy >> Computer Configuration >> Templates then Network >> QOS Packet Scheduler and >> to Limit Reservable Bandwidth.Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth.

3. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e."By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default.
"

4. So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20

How does the Ravmon Virus affects your PC?

When you Open any drive in My Computer by right clicking, the Context menu will have a chinese like language & when you click on this language on context menu, the drive will not open but the Open With dialouge will ask you to “Choose the program you want to use to open this file:”. Also by double clicking any drive same thing happens.

The Ravmon virus does also corrupt your Folder Options. So when you open Folder Options and try to check “Show hidden files and folders” and click ok. My Computer will not show hidden files, also “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)” option will not be working.

They are the spy softwares which are used to record the keystrokes made on victims system. These Keyloggers are tools that enable attacker to keep a record of the victims activities.

Common type of Attacks

Once the keylogger is installed on victims computer it can be used for following malicious activities:

Accessing the content of confidentional emails and documents.
Recording password, credit card numbers, accounts, ID’s, etc.
Pilfering software programming code.
Finding out vital information regarding tender price and future business plans.
Capture screen shots
Privacy invasion
Steal passwords and other intellectual property

Working

Keyloggers originally began as a tool for playing pranks on unsuspecting individuals but they soon began to use for a number of malicious purposes. The working is as follows:

1. The keylogger is installed on target victim through deceit or disguise. Some of the popular methods of doing this are as follows:

i.E-mail: Sending Keylogger file as an attachment to email addressed to victim. The problem with this method is that most often, the victim may not open the infected attachment.

ii.Auto run CD-ROMs: Burn the Keylogger onto a CDROM and then use the auto run facility of the CD to automatically execute /install the Keylogger, the moment the CD is inserted into the tray.

iii.Instant Messenger: It is also possible to send the Keylogger disguised it looks like a normal, legitimate file.

iv.Physical Access: Physical access to victim system gives an opportunity to attacker to install sever part of Keylogger manually.

v.EXE Binders: These binders are devices that allow user to bind two .exe Files together into one file, in such a way that there is no effect in working of either two files .So, the attacker binds or conceals the Keylogger inside a legitimate .EXE file. The container .EXE file is usually chosen to be irresistible to the victim, such as pornography videos or greeting cards .The Keylogger gets hidden inside these tempting file and when the victim opens the combined file, while the pornography or greeting card is being shown on screen, the Keylogger is being installed in the

2. The key logger once installed works in the background of the victims system and records all keystrokes or screenshots in log file .The recorded information is then automatically mailed to a predefined email address fed in by attacker on regular intervals.

3. It is also possible to configure an auto destruct features into a Keylogger which will automatically get destroyed at a predefined data and time, leaving a little evidence behind.

Detection

The following are some of the most common technique of detecting the presence of a keylogger on victim’s computer:

Suspicious Open ports: It is difficult to detect as port opens only when log file is mailed, this is the main difference between a keylogger and Trojan .In case of Trojan port is open all time
Detection Tools: Many tools allow system administrator to detect Keylogger. Most of Anti-virus tool also look for Keylogger installation.
Start-up Files: Keylogger is most dangerous as it gets loaded into the memory every time the victim system boots. For this to happen, there has to be a reference to it in some startup files.
System files: the two system files i.e. win.ini and system.ini have sections where all programs that are referenced get executed.
Registry Files: There is another place to look for Keylogger program reference. All programs are referred to in the Registry key.
Monitoring out going Traffic: What is most dangerous about a keylogger is that it covertly emails the logged keystrokes to attacker’s preset email address. Hence by blocking all malicious outgoing email it is possible to guard against keylogger.The administrator should look for illegal activities around the external mail servers i.e. SMTP or port 25

Countermeasures

After a Keylogger has been detected, the system administrator needs to remove it from system. They can be done in following manner:

There are many keylogger/spyware removal tools that can be downloaded and used to remove most common Keylogger. One should not only remove the Keylogger but also reference to Keylogger from the start-up files.
Never accept or execute any files sent over mail, chat etc.
Because .EXE allows attacker to join two .EXE files; the harmful Keylogger files may be embedded inside a normal harmless .Exe file. This Keylogger cannot be detected and only increase the file size by a certain bytes. Therefore is careful and only downloads software from Internet from original developer’s website.
A more effective countermeasure against Keylogger activity is installing a firewall on your computer to monitor and log all port traffic. Especially SMTP port no.25 which is mail server port which is used to send log files via mail to attacker. This enables you to detect and trace Keylogger _exploiting attempts.
